I scour the internet before almost every purchase. I love Sephora but in general, I don’t trust Sephora reviews because I heard they censor their negatives. I also rarely trust reviews on a brands website.
Here is a list of my favorite websites/bloggers/youtubers to find reviews and swatches of products:
Beautypedia (owned by Paula the Cosmetics Cop)
KarlaSugar – the next best thing to going shopping yourself (swatches of nearly everything)
Makeup and Beauty Blog (a witty, barely NC42)
Makeup Alley (reviews & chat on the forums)
Huda Beauty (youtube reviews of more higher end products)
GossMakeupArtist (helpful tips for many products)
Yaz Makeup Artist (an Indian (?) NC42 NC43 NC44 -I watch her video reviews to see if products will suit my skincolor)
Not product info but still my favorite beauty channels:
Lisa Eldridge (not really a swatch woman, but helpful for everyday wearable looks)
Additionally, if I can – I like to get my skincare and makeup at a discount. Here are the websites I use:
All Cosmetics Wholesale (There are rumors they have a fake or two slip in, but I’ve never received one plus they have an authenticity guarantee. Tip: Sign up for their emails – sometimes they have AWESEOME discounts on their sale items..like an extra 40% off!)
Makeup Artists Choice (The best skincare you can get for reasonable prices. Peels, serums are fantastic (research first though). I have never tried their makeup.) **This is an affiliate link. If you use it, you will save 25% off your purchase, I will get 15% of your purchase as store credit. You may alternatively elect to simply search for the site in a new window with no kick-back to me. Also, they have a daily deal code (on the left) and usually a monthly 20-30% off coupon code if you sign up for their emails.
LotionCrafter for mixing up your own body skincare
I also, of course shop at Sephora and Ulta. With Sephora, I normally wait for their 20% off sales and haul. But lately, I’ve been using Ulta more. Ulta has 20% off sometimes, and more importantly, as an Ultamate Rewards Member you earn points towards money you can use on any products. I normally shop here during 3x, 5x, 10x points to basically get my makeup for 40% back. Its crazy & I’ll write another post about how to get your money’s worth.
Finally, I’m posting a consolidated list of makeup colors that should match you if you’re a NC42, NC43, NC44 (my colors from winter to summer).
Makeup Forever 153 or MUFE HD 170 (light) and 173 (when tan)
Nars Sheerglow in Syracuse
Color Fx in M80 (if you can still find it, its discontinued but a GREAT full coverage, cream foundation) The color is supposed to be XXX in their new formulations
Nars Praline is a good color correcting under eye concealer
I will update this of course!
Hope it helps.
